Le saxophoniste Nathan Hanson et le contrebassiste Brian Roessler sont tous deux membres du groupe Fantastic Merlins. Si le duo formés de ces deux musiciens en est est la filiation directe, il a aussi pris sa totale autonomie.

Ayant enregistré des heures de bandes, Nathan Hanson et Brian Roessler (entendus avec avec Dizzy Gillespie, Didier Petit, Cecil Taylor, Henry Threadgill, François Rabbath, Mark Dresser, Douglas Ewart, Chris Potter, Chris Thomson, Tony Malaby, Liberty Ellman, Carei Thomas, Fly Manifesto) ont souhaité publier un premier disque d'une série qui devrait en compter d'autres. Le bien nommé Bellfounding a été organisé comme un montage d'une suite organique et cinématographique attestant de la vie de ce duo, de ses questionnements, désirs et plaisirs.
