Le passage au 21ème siècle a connu toutes sortes d’événements petits et grands. S’il est un disque qui a fait sensation alors, c’est bien ce Minneapolis de Michel Portal.

Pas question de jouer pour les dormeurs en début de siècle.
Sur les traces des trappeurs français du XIXème siècle, Michel Portal s'est rendu dans les Twin Cities (Minneapolis et St Paul sont des villes jumelles) pour y enregistrer cet impressionnant geste musical. Il y a rencontré une bande de musiciens avec qui il n’avait auparavant jamais joué, compagnons de Prince, de Living Colour ou de Jeff Beck et qui s’inscrivent dans des univers différents.
Loin d’un collage de mode passagère, Michel Portal forme avec cette équipée sauvage un véritable groupe. Un clin d’œil à Monk et le voilà qui renoue avec ses anciens plaisirs improvisés mis ici à l’épreuve joyeuse d’autres pratiques. Il joue Charles Mingus ("Good Bye Pork Pie Hat"), célèbre Judy Garland et ouvre bien d’autres champs visités pour l’essentiel : le chant premier.
L’aventure Paris Minneapolis a bel et bien commencé.
